Ask for a plan
Use a plan when a request can affect several files, has important choices, or needs a sequence of steps that you want to check first. For example, ask for a plan before reorganizing several chapters so you can review the proposed structure before any text changes. Enable Plan first in Chat or choose Plan first for selected text. The agent reads the relevant files without changing them, then you will see the plan in Plan from agent. Use Run it to approve the plan and let the agent begin the work. Use Dismiss to close the plan without starting it. Reject with feedback sends your response and asks for a revised plan.Review a proposed plan and approve it with Run it.
Follow long work
Some requests take longer because the agent needs to inspect files, run commands, research a source, or ask another agent to handle part of the work. You can follow tool calls and progress in the live agent dock. You will see work from another agent under the relevant task description. You can keep editing while the work runs. You still receive new agent edits as proposals for review. Open the full transcript when you need the exact input or result from a tool call.Use scratch space
The agent can place temporary work under.docwriter/agent/scratch/ when a task needs notes, downloaded material, or intermediate output that does not belong in your draft. Scratch files do not appear until a tool creates them. Starting a new session clears the scratch folder, so move anything you want to keep into the workspace first.
